Well, it's been an interesting holiday weekend. New Year's Eve in Sparta with some friends. Drove back, still kind of shocked I felt so good. And yesterday, not having much to do, decided to see a movie.
I think I'm getting to like the Dine-in Movies we have here a bit more. We wanted to see the Little Fokers, so we went to the AMC theater in Bridgewater. My cousin gets some free passes, so it really makes it a nice deal. We only had to pay for the 'experience' which is $15/ea and it pays for any food you buy up to that value. Anything you eat over that, you pay for.
I visited with some friends at the Apple store at that mall. It's always crowded there. When I worked there, people always thought we'd have some sort of sale for New Years Day.
The real deal with the Dine-in Theater is that there's a bar, so you can get a drink before the movie. Not that I'm a big drinker, but a beer before the movie is a really nice idea. It's something I got to like about movies in Europe and missed here.
When we got to the movie, we ordered our food early. I had a normal cheese burger and my cousin had a grilled lime chicken sandwich. Both were very good. My burger wasn't too greasy and my cousins sandwich was very juicy and flavorful. Even my fries were nicely done.
The movie, though, wasn't as good. It was fine as a comedy goes, but each and every gag you could see coming from a mile away and you were just waiting for the payoff. DiNiro plays the roll a bit too tight and you really didn't see Blyth Danner much. But what was really surprising, especially when compared to the ads, there was very little of Barbara Streisand or Dustin Hoffman. In fact, what was in the ads was about 95% of their screen time.
Other than that, it was OK. Nice escapism, but not a 'classic' and certainly not worthily of this star power. Sorry to say.
